65th International Baltic Congress

Congress prizes

In all congress pairs tournaments:

  • main financial prizes are awarded to 7% of participants and special prizes to 3%, i.e. 10% of participants in total,
  • the financial prize fund is at least 35% of entry fees,
  • winners receive trophies.

In congress pairs tournaments, non-cumulative special prizes are awarded from the prize fund to:

  • the best pair in which each player's WK does not exceed 3,
  • the best women's or mixed pair,
  • the best junior pair,
  • the best foreign pair.

A special prize in a given category is awarded only if at least five participants meeting the conditions of that category take part in the tournament. If this condition is not met for any category, up to two special prizes may be awarded provided that at least ten participants meet any of the category conditions.

The detailed calculation of prize amounts is based on a key assigning the following values to places:

first prize10
second prize7
third prize5
fourth prize4
fifth and subsequent prizes3 each
special prizes2 each

After calculating the number of prizes, the points from the prize key are summed. The total amount allocated to prizes is divided by the total number of points from the key above. The resulting value is multiplied by the relevant key values to obtain preliminary prize amounts, which the organiser rounds at its discretion. Additional differentiation of prizes in the “fifth and subsequent” category is permitted.

In the Grand Prix Polski Par tournament, prizes are awarded as in congress tournaments, except that the prize pool is calculated according to the GPPP regulations.

In the Grand Prix Polski Teamów, at least 3 prizes are awarded to no fewer than 7% of teams. The number and amounts of prizes will be announced after the tournament starts.

Main long-term prizes and additional prizes are awarded to players who have played at least 50% of congress tournaments counted for the Congress Ranking.

In the event of tied places, the higher result obtained in tournaments decides in the following order: GPPT, GPPP, 4x10 pairs. If players in a given category obtain the same places in all of the above tournaments, they share the place ex aequo and the prizes are divided equally.

Additional prizes in the congress long-term ranking are cumulative with main prizes, but not with each other; in other words, one player may not receive two special prizes in the congress long-term ranking, but may receive one main prize and one special prize. In such a case, the player receives the prize according to the order listed in point 6.b. For example, a junior who wins both the junior and women's rankings receives the junior prize, and the women's prize goes to the woman ranked 2nd among women, etc.
